For various reasons, our heroes found themselves in southern Cyre – in what would soon be the Mournland, near the blasted tower, overlooking the field of ruin. After a run in with some Emerald Claw forces, they all found themselves kidnapped.
Adventure the First
They found themselves in a caravan heading uphill, in what had once been an animal cage (with a strange eye carved into the ceiling). Their guards seemed malformed somehow, while the discordant music played. Near the top of the hill the caravan stopped, while their captors negotiated with some other party out of view of the party. Negotiations went awry, but were interrupted entirely when some monster killed everybody present and, in the process, knocked the cart our heroes were in down the hill. (The monster was never seen by the characters, but appeared to leave various different types of tracks, as if it was some kind of amalgamation mutant).
Escaping from the burning cart before it crashed over the cliff face, our heroes searched its wreckage to find a chest containing a letter from Lorasaadi – along with a large amount of residuum. They traveled back uphill, to the site of the attack, to investigate.
Once at the top of the hill, the adventurers were met with a Warforged who demanded that they surrender themselves and march back down the hill to the awaiting army. It became clear that the term of their confinement would likely extend until the end of the war… whenever that was…
Dathomir, eager to find the Eladrin city that had been sighted nearby and unwilling to let yet another appearance slip through his fingers after a 200 year search, was loathe to become once more a captive. He cried out defiantly, “No thanks,” and was instantly struck by an arrow shot by an obfuscated archer.
An unwanted fight broke out between the two forces and at first, the heroes seemed well matched. Slowly the tide of battle began to shift and the conversation held over the clashing of blades revealed that a compromise could be struck. The heroes were to vanish in exchange for the warforged captain never revealing that they were there.
And so, exhausted from a day of captivity, a near fatal escape from a runaway cart, and an intense battle with well armed guard, the band of heroes who had been brought together by a letter proclaiming their destiny headed down the hill towards a tower in the distance.
Adventure the Second
During the walk down the mountain, some of the heroes were lost in the woods, while new allies were found that had also escaped the kidnapping attempt. Upon arriving at the tower, the band found two men standing back to back facing off a horde of lifeless creatures. They quickly intervened, easily turning the battle in the favor of the two men, but once the horde had been vanquished, the men turned on each other!
It became clear that these men had some sort of dispute *.
Inside the tower a man was shackled to the wall over a glowing prophecy symbol. Battle ensued and something happened, but *(I forget what, someone fill in please)
An explosion rocked the mountain and a fog began to cloak the landscape. Whats-his-name insisted that the characters come with him to an airship that lay waiting scant miles away. Only one other way to safety was apparent and it was up a steep hill. The party held this man in such disdain that they decided they’d rather take their chances alone and started a long sprint up the hill. Perhaps Whats-his-name was truely concerned about the characters safety, or maybe he was just a soldier executing a dead-or-alive contract, but zombies under his control pursued the adventurers up the hill, nipping at their heels the whole way.
Indeed, some of the fate-made companions had to backtrack slightly in order to ensure the safety of all. Once at a clearing that the fog seemed to leave untouched, Whats-his-name was at the precipice with an army of undead, but the characters would not let him in and easily defeated his minions. In his retreat, he managed to pull one of the party members into the fog with him. Marcus d’Canath ingeniously used his sword lasso power to attempt to save his ally. Gary went chasing into the fog to retrieve the missing companion, but soon lost his way. Dathomir cast a Light spell onto some nearby objects to form a path to safety.
